Kimi vs. the Snow

It's been a long 3 weeks of snow. As soon as it's gone, more comes! It came fast and furious, but I think we are about done with it now. The snow kicked my butt the first week, but I bounced back determined not to let it ruin me two weeks in a row. If we were keeping score (and I was):

Snow: 1
Kimi: 1
and 1 tie

Let's recap the past three weeks

Week of 2/16-2/22:
1 treadmill run
25ish miles at Wilson's Creek
1 workout

This is the week the snow beat me. I'm too embarrassed to actually admit how many miles (or lack of) that were run this week. I did spend  A LOT of time out at Wilson's Creek. It was pretty much the only non-snow covered road around. As a result, the legs burned from running up hills and the joints ached from pounding down hills. The sliver lining of this week was a stellar 6 mile tempo Marshall and I had at the Battlefield.

Goal: 6 miles sub 36:00
Actual: 6 miles @ 35:22 (5:54 average)

After a pathetic start to the week, both Marshall and I were a bit worried about how this workout would go. We were even more nervous about big hills being involved. Really we had nothing to worry about, when the up hill slowed us down, the down hills made up for. We started at Republic High school and only had to climb a small portion of Bloody Hill.

Week of 2/23-3/1:
65 miles
40 miles on treadmill

Unfortunately, no workouts this week. But I chalk it up as a point for Kim :) First of all, I ran every day (and many of those miles were on the treadmill!) I'm awful at treadmill running, it's sooo boring. But I was bound and determined to make a come back from the prior week. I was supposed to to a track workout, which I opted to just cancel and put in some mileage. The 15 miler on the treadmill about did me in. My quads were shredded the next day. The PT in me knows that the quads are dominant on the treadmill (glutes not so much), but sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

I'm starting to feel really strong. I'm itching to get out and race now that we finally got some warm weather this weekend. There is 5 weeks until Rock the Parkway, and I'm thinking of adding a 5k or something before, as a rust-buster. It's probably not the best for Rock the Parkway (half marathon) to be my first rack back since Bass Pro (November).
